Inscriptions on this War Memorial:   To the lasting honour of the men of, and connected with this parish, who went forth to serve in his Majesty’s forces, and gave their lives for the defence of the realm and the defeat of the King’s enemies.   These nobly played their parts.   These heard thee call,   For God and King, and Home, they gave their all.

1.   In the Church of St Margaret of Antioch, Alderton, (grid ref SP 002331) (IWM War Memorial Ref: 33992) a Book of Remembrance is kept which records those of the village who lost their lives in the Great War.   William Diston is also listed in this book.
