Major Roger GRESLEY, MC, ‘A’ Battery 119th Brigade Royal Field Artillery, is buried in Plot I, Row H, Grave 13.
He died of wounds at a dressing station near Steenwerck on 6th September 1918 during the Allied advances in Flanders during August and September 1918. He is commemorated in the Book of Remembrance at St Stephen’s Church, Cheltenham, though his connection with the town is not known. He was residing at “Merrileas”, Chandlers Ford, Hants before the war.

CSM Ernest Henry KNIGHT, 4th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment, is buried in Plot III, Row H, Grave 8.
He was killed in action in the Nieppe Forest area of France on 12th April 1918, aged 40, during the German advances in Operation Georgette. He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial and the St Peter’s Church War Memorial. He left a widow, Mrs Fanny Knight, who was residing at 9 Western Cottages, Russell Place, Cheltenham and later at 2 Swindon Street, Cheltenham. |
