“Cheltonians” buried in this Cemetery

Pte Albert George JOBBINS, 8th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, who died in the Tidworth area on 16th October 1914, aged 18, is buried in Row C, Grave 117.

8th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment was billeted and training in the area at the time so it may well be that Pte Jobbins was killed whilst in training or died of illness.

He is commemorated on the Staverton (St Catherine’s Church) War Memorial.

He was the son of Albert and Emma Lena Jobbins of School House, Staverton, near Cheltenham.

At the foot of his headstone is a wooden Remembrance Cross placed there on 9th March 2003.

Pte Jobbins is also commemorated on theNailsworth War Memorial.
