Short History of the 11th (Reserve) Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment |
The Battalion was formed at Abbey Wood, Woolwich, in October 1914, as a Service battalion, part of “K4” of Kitchener’s Army and was allocated to 106th Brigade, of the 35th Division. Served at Cheltenham for some time before, in April 1915, it became a Reserve Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment responsible for training New Army recruits of the Regiment and was based in Belhus Park, Aveley, near Purfleet, Essex. The Battalion moved to Seaford, Sussex, in early 1916 and in September 1916 during the re-organisation of the Training Reserve it became 16th Training Reserve Battalion of the 4th Reserve Brigade. |
