The King’s Colour of the 9th (Service) Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment was placed in St Mary’s Parish Church

 on the disbandment of the Battalion in 1919

The commemorative plaque to Lieutenant Douglas Woulfe HAY, MC, 6th Battalion Middlesex Regiment,  who was killed in action in the St Quentin area of France on 29th September 1918.   He is buried in the Villers Hall British Cemetery.

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial and the Cheltenham College Roll of Honour.

His parents, Lt Col Henry Thomas Horatio Hay and Mrs Mary Margaret Hay, were residing at Stanley Lodge, Battledown, Cheltenham at the time of Douglas’s death.

On this wooden reredos in St Mary’s church are two brass commemorative plaques to Major George Dighton Probyn SWINLEY, 14th King George’s Own Ferozepore Sikhs.   He died of wounds at Gallipoli on 13th May 1915 and is buried in Pink Farm Cemetery, Helles.

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial and the Christ Church Roll of Honour.   There is also a commemorative plaque to him in Christ Church.

His parents, Maj Gen George Swinley, CB, and Mrs Alice Eliza Swinley, resided at 2 Fauconberg Villas, Bayshill Road, Cheltenham.

The commemorative plaque to the one hundred Old Boys of the Parish Church School who fell during the Great War.  

The Roll of Honour which lists the fallen of the School, which was located within Devonshire Street School until its closure, is now located within The Baptistery in St Mary’s Church and can be viewed here.
