378 Cheltonians gave their lives in 1916

10 Cheltonians serving in the Royal Navy were killed on 31st May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland.

230 Cheltonians were killed or died of during the Battle of The Somme, 1st July – 21st November 1916.   107 were killed or died of wounds in July alone.

9 Cheltonians serving with 8th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment were killed in action on 3rd July 1916.

15 Cheltonians serving with 1/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment were killed in action on 21st July 1916.

23 Cheltonians serving with various regiments were killed in action on 23rd July 1916.
