    Surnames – P

Some apparent  inaccuracies and anomalies have been discovered in respect of the spelling of surnames, service/regimental records, details of birth and death events and other matters in The Book, the Debt of Honour Register at the CWGC, on local war memorials and in the publication “Officers and Soldiers Who Died In The Great War”.

 

(It should be noted that the many Observations here are being gradually investigated and corrected where necessary)

PAINTER Albert Ernest

The Book

The Book records his death on 12th July 1917, actual date of death is 14th April 1917.

PAINTER Frederick

On both the Cheltenham War Memorial and the St John’s Church War Memorial he is commemorated as PAYNTER.

PEACHEY Thomas

In SDGW  his date of death is 12th August 1918 whilst in the DoHR it is recorded as 10th August 1918.

PEARCE Charles Henry William

Regimental number in the DoHR is 11116 – in SDGW it is recorded as 111116.

PEARCE Harold Wilfred

CWGC

DoHR records his regimental number as 44077.   His official army personal documents held by the National Archives of Canada records his number as 440770.   CWGC informed of error and has subsequently amended number.

PERRY, Alfred

The Book, page 445

Also commemorated on the Badgeworth (Holy Trinity Church) War Memorial.   Parents, William and Agnes Perry, resided at 9 Pretoria Terrace, St Mark’s, Cheltenham and also at Poplar Villa, The Reddings, Cheltenham.   Brother of George, below.

PERRY, George

The Book, page 445

Also commemorated on the Badgeworth (Holy Trinity Church) War Memorial.   Parents, William and Agnes Perry, resided at 9 Pretoria Terrace, St Mark’s, Cheltenham and also at Poplar Villa, The Reddings, Cheltenham.   Brother of Alfred, above.

Second christian name is Horne

PRICE John Lee

SDGW

Served as 12934, Pte, Glos Regt.   SDGW records his unit as 8th Bn Glos Regt and KIA on 1st September 1918 in France and Flanders.   He was actually serving with 2nd Bn Glos Regt and was KIA in Salonica.
