CSM Herbert Edwin PAYNE, 2nd Battalion Australian Infantry, is buried in Plot VIII, Row E, Grave 2.
He was wounded in action on 6th November 1917 during the Battle of Passchendaele and died of these wounds on 9th November 1917 in a medical unit in Poperinghe. He was 28. CSM Payne is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial. His parents, Jeremiah and Eliza Payne, resided at 97 Lindon Street, Gloucester and he left a widow, Florence, who was residing at Belmont House, Winchcombe Street, Cheltenham. |
