    Surnames – J

Some apparent  inaccuracies and anomalies have been discovered in respect of the spelling of surnames, service/regimental records, details of birth and death events and other matters in The Book, the Debt of Honour Register at the CWGC, on local war memorials and in the publication “Officers and Soldiers Who Died In The Great War”.

 

(It should be noted that the many Observations here are being gradually investigated and corrected where necessary)

Driver Frederick Charles JENNINGS (who served in the Canadian Field Artillery as David Edward Morrison) served as 1257816, Gunner, 21st Battery, 4th Brigade Canadian Field Artillery.   Killed in action in France on 27th September 1918 and buried in Quarry Wood Cemetery, Sains-les-Marquion, France.   Parents, Frederick and Elizabeth Jennings, resided at The Gardens, Charlton Park, Cheltenham.   Commemorated on the Charlton Kings War Memorial and on the Charlton Kings (St Mary’s Church) Roll of Honour Tablet.

JOBBINS Albert George

Commemorated on the Staverton (St Catherine’s Church) Roll of Honour.   Served as 11204, Pte, 8th Bn Glos Regt and died of illness in Tidworth on 26th October 1914, aged 18.   Buried in Tidworth Military Cemetery, Plot C/117.   Parents, Albert and Emma Jobbins, resided at The School House, Staverton.

This commemoration may well be to 15294, Pte, Ernest Alfred Jones, 10th Bn Glos Regt, killed in action at Loos, France, on 25th September 1915, aged 21.   He left a widow, Mrs Ethel Alice Jones, who resided at 55 Upper Norwood Street and previously at 13 Commercial Street, Cheltenham.
