Sgt Albert Victor BRACHER, MM, 25th Battalion Australian Imperial Force is commemorated on the grave of his parents.

  

He was killed in action on 29th July 1916 in the Pozieres area during the Battle of the Somme.  

 

He has no known grave and is listed on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial To The Missing.

 

He is commemorated on the Charlton Kings War Memorial and on the Charlton Kings (St Mary’s Church) Roll of Honour Tablet.

 

His parents, Alfred Henry and Anne Mary Bracher, resided at “Tregantle” Copt Elm Road, Charlton Kings and his mother, later in 1924, resided at 2 Ashley Place, Horsefair Street, Charlton Kings.

Lt (Philip) Donald Morton BROWN, 1st Battalion Cameron Highlanders, is commemorated on the grave of his great-grandfather.

  

He was killed in action on 17th October 1918 in the River Aisne area of France.   He is buried in the Vaux-Andigny Cemetery, France.

 

Lt Brown is commemorated on the Highbury Congregational Church Roll of Honour.

 

His great-grandfather was a Thomas Brown who died on 12th April 1877, aged 76 and his great-grandmother was Sarah Brown who died on 18th April 1880, aged 80.   His mother, Mrs H Brown, resided at 21 Merchiston Crescent, Edinburgh.

  

The Brown family were associated with the Highbury Congregational Church.

Sgt William Joseph CHANDLER, MM, 1/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment is commemorated on the grave of his parents.

  

He died of wounds on 17th August 1917 in in a Dressing Station in the Ypres area of Belgium.   He is buried in the Dozinghem Cemetery, Belgium.

 

Sgt Chandler is commemorated on the Charlton Kings War Memorial, the Holy Apostles Church Roll of Honour and the Charlton Kings (St Mary’s Church) Roll of Honour Tablet.

 

His mother, Mrs Florence Chandler, resided at  Victoria Cottage, Ryeworth Road, Charlton Kings and his late father, Mr William Joseph Chandler, at Hill Place, London Road, Charlton Kings.

Sgt George Ashley CHAPMAN, 1st Battalion Black Watch, is commemorated on the grave of his parents.

 

He was killed in action during the Battle of Gheluvelt in the Ypres area of Belgium on 31st October 1914.  

 

He has no known grave and is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial To The Missing.

His parents, Thomas William and Eleanor Meek Chapman, resided at 3 Lyefield Terrace, Charlton Kings.

LCpl Ernest Henry CHESS, 1/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, is commemorated on the grave of his parents.

  

He was killed in action on 16th August 1916 in the Pozieres area of France during the Battle of the Somme.  

 

He has no known grave and is listed on the Thiepval Memorial To The Missing.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the All Saints Church War Memorial and the Salem Baptist Church Roll of Honour.

 

His parents, George and Mary Chess, resided at 2 Grosvenor Cottages, Grosvenor Terrace, Cheltenham.

 

Sergeant Major Harry COLLINS, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) is commemorated on the grave of a relative.

  

He was killed in action on 26th July 1915 in the Ypres area of Belgium and is buried in the Nieuwerke (also known as Neuve-Eglise) Cemetery, Belgium.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial and the Salem Baptist Church Roll of Honour.

 

His parents, SSgt John Collins and Mrs Clara Ann Collins resided at 12, Clarence Square Cheltenham and later at 14 St Philips Terrace, Cheltenham.

Private Reginald Charles ELLIOTT, 17th Battalion Manchester Regiment, is commemorated on the family grave.

  

He was killed in action on 31st July 1917 in the Ypres area of Belgium and buried in the Ypres Reservoir Cemetery.

  

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial (where his name was added as late as 1993) the Holy Apostles Church Roll of Honour and the Manchester Regiment Roll of Honour in Manchester Cathedral.

 

His family resided at Coltham Fields, Hales Road, Cheltenham.

Private Thomas Henry FRY, 2nd Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment, is commemorated on the grave of a relative.

  

He died of wounds in the Vignacourt area of France on 29th April 1918 and is buried in the Vignacourt Cemetery.

 

He is commemorated on the Charlton Kings War Memorial, the Charlton Kings (St Mary’s Church) Roll of Honour Tablet and the Cheltenham Grammar School Roll of Honour.

 

His parents, Walter and Ellen Marie Fry, resided at “Glenisla”, Copt Elm Road, Charlton Kings.

Gunner Arthur Samuel HENNELL, 68th Battery, 1st Brigade Canadian Field Artillery, is commemorated on the grave of his father.

  

He was severely gassed at Vimy Ridge on 18th August 1917 and subsequently died on 20th April 1918 in Canada.  

 

He is buried in the Fort Massey Cemetery, Nova Scotia.

 

He is commemorated on the Charlton Kings War Memorial and on the Charlton Kings (St Mary’s Church) Roll of Honour Tablet.

 

His parents, Colonel Arthur Reginald Hennell and Mrs Frances Elizabeth Hennell, resided at  “Springfield” London Road, Charlton Kings.

 

Pte Hubert Bernard HODSON, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, is commemorated on the grave of his father.

  

He was killed in action in the Ypres area of Belgium on 8th May 1915.

 

He has no known grave is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial To The Missing.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham College Roll of Honour, the Charlton Kings (St Mary’s Church) Roll of Honour Tablet.

 

His father, the Reverend Thomas Hodson, was the vicar of St Mary’s Church, Charlton Kings and the family resided at The Rectory, Charlton Kings.

Sgt Howard George PEACEY, Royal Gloucestershire Hussars, is commemorated on a family grave.

  

He was killed in action during the Battle of Qatia in Palestine on 23rd April 1916.  

 

He has no known grave and is listed on the Jerusalem Memorial To The Missing.

 

He is commemorated on the Charlton Kings War Memorial, the Charlton Kings (St Mary’s Church) Roll of Honour Tablet and on the Winchcombe War Memorial.

 

His parents, Frederick John and Mrs Kate Peacey, resided at The Withyholt, Charlton Kings.

Captain Herbert Guy TURNER, 2nd Battalion Cheshire Regiment, is commemorated on the grave of a relative.

  

He was killed in action in the Messines area of Belgium on 2nd March 1915.  

 

He has no known grave and is listed on the Ploegsteert Memorial To The Missing.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial and on the Cheltenham College Roll of Honour.

 

His family were associated with The Firs, Battledown, Cheltenham.

Captain Hugh Duberley WILLIS, Royal Army Medical Corps attached to 3rd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment, is commemorated on the family plot.

  

He died of wounds on 12th August 1917 in the Westhoek area of Belgium and is buried in the Ypres Road Military Cemetery.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the Cheltenham College Roll of Honour and the Charlton Kings (St Mary’s Church) Roll of Honour Tablet.

 

His parents, Capt Horace George Willis JP and Mrs Emily Willis, resided at The Glenfall, Ham Road, Charlton Kings.

Captain Edwin Charles WILLOUGHBY, 7th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, is commemorated on his father’s grave.

  

He was killed in action at Chunuk Bair in Gallipoli on 8th August 1915.  

 

He has no known grave and is listed on the Helles Memorial To The Missing, Gallipoli.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the Cheltenham College Roll of Honour, the St Mark’s Church Roll of Honour, the Charlton Kings War Memorial and the Charlton Kings (St Mary’s Church) Roll of Honour Tablet.

 

His parents, Captain Charles Christopher Willoughby and Mrs Margaret Jane Willoughby, resided at “Courtfield”, London Road, Charlton Kings and he left a widow, Mrs Dorothy Helen Willoughby, who resided at Westal Court Farm, Hatherley Lane, Cheltenham.

2nd Officer Howard Dutson BOULTON,  Mercantile Marine, HMT Pascal, is commemorated on the lychgate of St Mary’s Church Charlton Kings.  

 

He was killed at sea on 17th December 1916 when his ship was torpedoed off the Channel Islands.   He is buried in Alderney RC Cemetery.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial and the St Luke’s Church Roll of Honour.

 

His parents, Mr and Mrs Lockwood Dutson Boulton, resided at Selby Lodge, Cambray Place, Cheltenham.
