“Cheltonians” buried in this Cemetery

Pte Cecil Linford SHEPPARD, 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters, is buried in Plot XX, Row D, Grave 11.

He was killed in action on 16th December 1917 in the Cite St Pierre area of France.   At the time of his death he was 20 years old.

Pte Sheppard is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial.

His parents, Frederick and Alice Sheppard, resided at “Linsdale”, Gloucester Road, Cheltenham.

 

A photo of Pte Watts’ headstone will be posted here in due course. Pte James Albert WATTS, 10th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, is buried in Plot XVIII, Row E, Grave 30.

He was killed in action on 30th June 1916, aged 26, in the Calonne area of France.

He was originally buried in the Cite Calonne Military Cemetery, but his remains were exhumed and reburied at Loos in January 1921.

Pte Watts is commemorated on theCheltenham War Memorial and on the Holy Trinity Church War Memorial.

His mother, Mrs Emily Watts, resided at 54 Sherbourne Street, Cheltenham and later at 65 Union Street, Cheltenham.
