    Surnames – F

Some apparent  inaccuracies and anomalies have been discovered in respect of the spelling of surnames, service/regimental records, details of birth and death events and other matters in The Book, the Debt of Honour Register at the CWGC, on local war memorials and in the publication “Officers and Soldiers Who Died In The Great War”.

Born at Cheltenham in Q3 – 1888.   In the 1901 census he was living at 8, Leighton Row, off New Street, Cheltenham.

He enlisted into the Royal Welsh Fusiliers on 19th September 1905 when residing at 3, Leighton Row, New Street, Cheltenham.

Went to France with 2nd Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers on 13th August 1917.   Served in France and Flanders.

Wounded in action in late November 1917 near Passchendaele and evacuated to a Field Ambulance near Vlamertinghe. to the West of Ypres, where he died of his injuries on 30th November 1917.   He is buried in a war grave in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery.

His widow, Emma Elizabeth re-married at Cheltenham in Q3 – 1919 to Mr Frederick G Eaketts and resided at 3, Knapp Cottages, New Street, Cheltenham.

Initially served with 7th Bn Glos Regt but was medically evacuated to UK in October 1915 suffering from dysentery.   Was posted to 1st Bn Glos Regt in December 1915 and wounded 13th June 1916.   Evacuated to UK and discharged from Army 25th April 1917.
