Worked on the railways and became as member of the National Union of railwaymen in 1916 aged 18. Enlisted or conscripted into the Army in 1917 and posted to the London Regiment. Killed in action in the Arras area of France on 28th March 1918 serving with 1/5th Battalion London Regiment, on detachment from parent unit 1/8th Battalion London Regiment. His body was never identified or recovered from the battlefield and he is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. |

We have made the MoD/CWGC aware of the circumstances of his service and death but rejected our case for him to be classified as official war casualty. |
