Some apparent inaccuracies and anomalies have been discovered in respect of the spelling of surnames, service/regimental records, details of birth and death events and other matters in The Book, the Debt of Honour Register at the CWGC, on local war memorials and in the publication “Officers and Soldiers Who Died In The Great War”.

GIBBONS, Augustus Frederick |

Enlisted into 3/4th Bn Glos Regt on 25th March 1916 and was posted to 1/4th Bn Glos Regt on 2nd September 1916. Wounded in action in November 1916 during the Battle of The Somme and evacuated to the Mill Road Infirmary, Liverpool on 30th November 1916 for treatment for GSW to right knee and shrapnel wounds to hands, legs and back. At this hospital he was also diagnosed with heart disease. He was then transferred to the Beaufort War Hospital, Bristol, on 1st August 1917, being discharged on 11th September 1917 to the Southern Command Depot, Ballyvonare Camp, Co Cork, He was then posted to 154 (Territorial Force) Depot, Bristol, on 28th September 1917 being finally discharged from the Army on 23rd November 1917 as physically unfit for war service due to heart disease. He was awarded a Silver War Badge on discharge, and later awarded the British War Medal and Allied Victory medal. He died at his father’s home at 80, Bath Road, Cheltenham. |

This commemoration on the St James’ School Roll of Honour refers to a Keneth Edward Reginald GOULD who birth was registered in Cheltenham in Q4-1894. At the 1901 Census, Keneth then aged 6, and his family were residing at 9 Upper Park Street, St James’, Cheltenham. His father, Edward Samuel Gould, died in Cheltenham in 1909. According to the International Genealogical Index, Keneth died in the UK in 1915 but no proof of this has been found in the GRO Deaths Index. To date, no service or other personal details have been found. |

He died of wounds, aged 38, on 26th August 1919 when the ship was involved in an explosion on a barge she had gone to assist.. He is commemorated on a Special Memorial stone in Archangel Allied Cemetery, Russia being actually buried in Semenovka (Bereznik) Cemetery. |
