Cheltonians buried in this Cemetery

Pte Arthur Leonard DAFFURN, 11th Battalion Queens Own (Royal West Kent) Regiment, is buried in Plot III, Row C, Grave 27.

He was killed in action on 7th October 1916 during the Battle of Le Transloy.

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial and on the Cheltenham Parish Church Boys School Roll of Honour.

His parents, George and Mary Daffurn, resided at 16 Stoneville Street, Cheltenham.

 

Pte Joseph James JENKINS, 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, is buried in Plot VII, Row G, Grave 7.

He was killed in action on 30th November 1916, aged 37, in the Eaucourt L’Abbaye area.

He is commemorated on theCheltenham War Memorial and on the St James’ School Roll of Honour.

He left a widow, Charlotte, who resided at 9 Hermitage Street, Cheltenham.   His adopted son, Edward Charles, was killed in action in France on 21st July 1916, aged 20.

The inscription on the gravestone reads “Peace Perfect peace”.

Private William George Henry WILSON, 10th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, is buried in Plot VII, Row L, Grave 23.

He was killed in action on 19th November 1916 in the Flers area of France.

Pte Wilson is commemorated on theCheltenham War Memorial and on the St Peter’s Church War Memorial.

He left a widow, Mrs Mary Wilson, who resided at 33 Russell Street, St Peter’s, Cheltenham.
