Notes:

1.   ANDREWS is Leading Seaman Arthur Edward Andrews, RN, HMS Defence, who was killed in action at sea on 31st May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland.   He is not commemorated on any war memorial in Cheltenham or local area.

2.   AYRES is Cyril John Lerwill AYERS.

3.   BARNET is Lionel BARNETT.

4.   BELL is Major Basil Woodd Bambridge BELL-BATHURST, who died of wounds in France on 23rd April 1917.   He is not commemorated on any war memorial in Cheltenham or local area.

5.   BONNEL G has not been identified.   He is not commemorated on any war memorial in Cheltenham or local area.   May well refer to Pte George BANNER, 1087, 1st Bn Glos Regt, who was killed in action in France on 21st December 1914.

6.   WOOLCOMBE-BOYCE is Lt (RN) Harold Courtenay WOOLLCOMBE-BOYCE.

7.   CAVE-BROWN-CAVE is Captain Bernard Cave-Brown-Cave, who died in the UK, aged 50, in April 1917.   He served for some time in the Wiltshire regiment during the war and was seriously wounded before he retired on health grounds.   He is not commemorated on any war memorial in Cheltenham or local area.

8.   DAFFERN is Arthur Leonard DAFFURN.

9.   DARTNELL is William James DARTNALL.

10. DOWDING is LCpl Alfred Ivan Dowding, 3rd Coy Australian Machine Gun Corps, who was killed in action in France on 30th December 1916.   He is not commemorated on any war memorial in Cheltenham or local area.

11.  NORRIS is commemorated twice.

12.  SLATTER is Lionel Arthur Slatter.

13.  Smith E is Pte Ernest Smith, 2/5th Bn Glos Regt, who was killed in action in France on 6th April 1916.

14.  WATSON is Capt Noel Alick Watson, 55th Coke’s Rifles, attached to 56 Punjabi Rifles, Indian Army, who was killed in action in Mesopotamia on 22nd April 1917.   He is not commemorated on any war memorial in Cheltenham or local area.
