The memorial plaque to 2Lt Hubert William CORKE, 10th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment.  

 

He was killed in action on 19th April 1916 in the Maroc area of France and buried in the Maroc British Cemetery, France.

   

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the St Mark’s Church Roll of Honour, the Swindon Village War Memorial, the Grammar School Roll of Honour and the Holy Apostles Church Roll of Honour.

 

His parents, Rev Hubert Stokes and Louisa Corke resided at the Swindon Village Rectory.

The brass memorial plaque to Pte Albert Edward CULL of the Machine Gun Corps.  

 

He was killed in action on 15th May 1917 near Roeux, France, during the Arras offensive.  His is buried in the Roeux British Cemetery.

 

He is commemorated on the Swindon Village War  Memorial.

 

His parents, Robert and Louisa Cull, resided at  “Cotteswold”, Swindon Village.

Commemorations in the Churchyard

Sgt George Lumbard CANNOCK, 6th Inniskilling Dragoons, is commemorated on the grave of his parents.

 

He was killed in action in France on 8th August 1918 on the first day of the Battle of Amiens and is buried in the Le Quesnel Cemetery, France.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial and on the Staverton (St Catherine’s Church) Roll of Honour.

 

His parents, Thomas and Eleanor Cannock, resided at Quilon Villas, Prestbury Road, Cheltenham.

 

LCpl Charles Gordon WINSTONE, Cameron Highlanders, is commemorated on his father’s grave.  

 

He was killed in action in the Festubert area of France on 18th May 1915.   He has no known grave and listed on the Le Touret Memorial To The Missing in France.

   

He is also commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the Grammar School Roll of Honour, the Leckhampton War Memorial and on the Leckhampton (St Peter’s Church) Roll of Honour.

 

His father, Mr Gordon Arthur Winstone, resided at “Ewlyn”, Leckhampton Road, Cheltenham.
