Commemorations on Graves in the Churchyard

Private William George ALDRIDGE, 14th Battalion (1st Birmingham) Royal Warwickshire Regiment is commemorated on the family plot.

  

He was killed in action in the area south-west of Cambrai, France on 27th September 1918 aged 28.

 

He has no known grave and listed on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial To The Missing, France.   

 

He is commemorated on the Bishops Cleeve War Memorial.   

 

His family resided at Osborne Farm, Bishops Cleeve.

 

 

Lt Thomas Roland Juckes and 2Lt George Francis Juckes are commemorated on the grave of their father and mother, Ambrose and Henrietta Juckes.

  

Thomas was serving with 2nd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment and was killed in action on 9th May 1915 during the Battle of Aubers Ridge in France.   He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial To The Missing.

  

George was serving with 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade and was killed in action on 6th July 1915 north of Ypres in Belgium.   He was buried in the Talana Farm Cemetery, Ypres.

 

The brothers are not commemorated on any memorial in Bishops Cleeve or in the local area and their association with Bishops Cleeve or Cheltenham is not known.   Both were born in Horsham, Sussex.

Pte George Frederick LARGE is commemorated on the family grave.   George was killed in action on 30th October 1917 in the Passchendaele area of Belgium whilst serving with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and is buried in the Passchendaele New British Cemetery.

  

He is commemorated on the Bishops Cleeve War Memorial and on the Southam War Memorial.

 

His brother William LARGE, who was wounded in France in 1917 whilst serving with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, died on 23rd October 1921 in Canada and is buried in Saskatchewan.

 

He is commemorated on the Bishops Cleeve War Memorial.

 

The family resided in Bushcombe Lane, Woodmancote.

Captain Hugh Vincent Corbett TURNBULL, 2nd Battalion King’s Own Scottish Borderers, is commemorated on the grave of his parents.

  

He was killed in action in the Ypres area of Belgium on 13th November 1914.  

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial To The Missing.

 

He is also commemorated on Cheltenham War Memorial.

 

His family resided at “Murvagh”, Sandford Road, Cheltenham and Upper Colletts, Cleeve Hill.
