Some apparent  inaccuracies and anomalies have been discovered in respect of the spelling of surnames, service/regimental records, details of birth and death events and other matters in The Book, the Debt of Honour Register at the CWGC, on local war memorials and in the publication “Officers and Soldiers Who Died In The Great War”.

Listed by surname in alphabetical order are these apparent inaccuracies and further investigations taken.   The aim is to resolve these apparent inaccuracies in the fullness of time.

The Book  –  “Leaving All That Was Dear” by Joseph Devereux and Graham Sacker.   Details of the book can be viewed here.

DoHR  –  The Debt of Honour Register at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

IWD  –  GRO War Deaths Indices (1914 – 1921).

MIC  –  The Medal Index Card of Army personnel who served in the Great War and were entitled to campaign medals.

ODGW  –  The HMSO publication “Officers Died In The Great War”.   Now re-published by the Naval and Military Press as ISBN 1843424223 which is also available on a searchable CD.

SDGW  –  In 1921, HMSO published an eighty volume set of books which recorded details of the soldiers who had died in the Great War, the whole work titled “Soldiers Died In The Great War”.   Naval and Military Press have produced a CD, ISBN 1897632940.
