Some apparent  inaccuracies and anomalies have been discovered in respect of the spelling of surnames, service/regimental records, details of birth and death events and other matters in The Book, the Debt of Honour Register at the CWGC, on local war memorials and in the publication “Officers and Soldiers Who Died In The Great War”.

Commemoration on the Cheltenham Parish Church Boys School Roll of Honour refers to PO/2438(S), Pte, William John Wixey, Royal Marine Light Infantry, 2nd Royal Marine Battalion, who was taken as a POW by the Germans on 28th March 1918.  He returned to Cheltenham in January 1919.   He was born in Cheltenham on 7th June 1889 and enlisted into the RMLI on 8th September 1917.   At enlistment, his wife, Mrs Olive Elizabeth Wixey, resided at 6 Henrietta Street, Cheltenham.   He died in Cheltenham on 2nd October 1947 and is buried in Cheltenham Cemetery.   At the time of his death, he resided at 57 St Pauls Street, Cheltenham.
