Sgt Henry Thompson Dartnall, MSM, RAMC, is commemorated on the grave of his wife.

 

He was accidentally killed near Valenciennes on 19th December 1918 whilst on the staff of the Director of Medical Services at HQ 1st Army.  

 

Tragically his wife, Minnie, had died during the flu epidemic, on 18th October 1918, leaving a two year old son.

 

He is buried in the Valenciennes Communal Cemetery, Plot II, Row B, Grave 9.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the Cheltenham Grammar School Roll of Honour, and the All Saints Church War Memorial.

 

His parents, Mr Henry Thompson Dartnall and Mrs Sarah Anne Dartnall, resided at 42, Winstonian Road, Cheltenham.

 

His brother, William, was killed in action on 25th September 1916 whilst serving with 2/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment.

Pte Thomas DAVIS, 18th Battalion Machine Gun Corps, is commemorated on the family grave.

  

He was killed in action near Albert in France on 23rd August 1918, during the 18th Division’s attacks in the area between June and August 1918.

 

He is buried in the Bouzincourt Ridge Cemetery, Plot II, Row Q, Grave 1.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial and the Parish Boys School Cheltenham Roll of Honour.

 

His parents, Charles and Elizabeth Davis, resided at 300 High Street, Cheltenham.

 

Sgt Frank Maurice DRISCOLL, 10th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment and his brother Pte John Patrick DRISCOLL, 2/4th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment are commemorated on their father’s grave.

  

Frank was killed in action, aged 20, on 25th September 1915, the first day of the Battle of Loos.   He is buried in Cabaret Rouge British Cemetery, France.

  

John was killed in action, aged 33, on 27th August 1917 in the Langemarck area of Belgium.   He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

 

The brothers are commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the St Paul’s Church War Memorial and the St Gregory’s Church Roll of Honour.

 

Their parents, Dennis and Alice Driscoll, resided at 64 Marle Hill Road, Cheltenham.

Sergeant Major Horace Maunder EDWARDS, 16th Battalion Warwickshire Regiment, is commemorated on the family plot.

  

He was killed in action on 20th April 1917 in the Vimy area of France during the Battle of Arras.   He is buried in the La Chaudiere Military Cemetery, Vimy, France.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the Cheltenham Grammar School Roll of Honour, the Christ Church Roll of Honour, the Charlton Kings War Memorial and the Charlton Kings (St Mary’s Church) War Memorial.

 

His parents, Horace and Mary Ann Edwards, resided at “Dorincourt”, St Georges Road, Cheltenham and his widow lived at “Heathfield”, Hales Road, Cheltenham.

Pte Raymond William EGGLETON, 1/4th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, is commemorated on the family grave.

  

He was killed in action at Third Ypres during the attack on Poelcapelle in Belgium on 9th October 1917, and is buried in the Poelcappelle British Cemetery, Plot II, Row D, Grave 7.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial.

 

His parents, William and Ellen Eggleton, resided at Marle Hill Gardens, Folly Lane, Cheltenham.

 

His brother Reginald, who had served with the Royal Field Artillery during the war, died in Cheltenham on 21st February 1919 during the flu epidemic.

Pte John Richard EVANS, 6th Battalion East Kent Regiment (The Buffs) is commemorated on the grave of his father.

  

He was wounded in action during the battle at Bourlon Wood and died of these wounds on 26th November 1917, aged 34 at the 21st Casualty Clearing Station at Ytres.   He is buried in Rocquigny-Equancourt British Cemetery, Plot I, Row A, Grave 4.

 

He is commemorated on the St Stephen’s Church Roll of Honour.

 

His parents, John and Elizabeth Evans, resided at 46 Tivoli Street, Cheltenham.

 

He left a widow, Mrs Ethel Daisy Evans, who resided at 14 Southernhay, Clifton Wood, Bristol.

2Lt Marshall Breckon FEATHERSTONE, 2nd Special Company Royal Engineers, is commemorated on the grave of his parents.

  

He was killed in action on 2nd September 1917 at Frezenburg, in the Ypres area of Belgium and is buried in Aeroplane Cemetery, Ypres, Plot I, Row B, Grave 13.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial and the Cheltenham College Roll of Honour.

 

His parents, Arthur and Mabel Featherstone, resided at “Keyston”, All Saints Road, Cheltenham.

 

The Forbes brothers are commemorated on the family grave.

  

Major Arthur FORBES, 128 Pioneers, Indian Army, was killed in action in Mesopotamia on 17th April 1916.   He has no known grave and is listed on the Basra Memorial To The Missing.

  

Captain Hunter FORBES, 51st Sikhs, Indian Army, was killed in action in Mesopotamia on 6th April 1916.   He has no known grave and is listed on the Basra Memorial To The Missing.

 

Both are commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial and the Cheltenham College Roll of Honour.

 

Their father, Colonel George Forbes-Robertson, resided at 13 Pitville Lawn, Cheltenham.

Captain Kenneth FORBES-ROBERTSON, 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, is commemorated on his parents grave.

  

He was killed in action in the Ploegsteert Wood area of Belgium on 8th November 1914.   He has no known grave and is listed on the Ploegsteert Memorial To The Missing.

 

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the Cheltenham College Roll of Honour, the Holy Apostles Church Roll of Honour and on a commemorative plaque in Holy Apostles Church.

 

His parents, Farquhar and Laura Forbes-Robertson, resided at 2 Keynsham Bank, Cheltenham.

 

His brother, Lt Col James Forbes-Robertson, was awarded the |V|C, DSO and Military Cross during the war.
