Some apparent inaccuracies and anomalies have been discovered in respect of the spelling of surnames, service/regimental records, details of birth and death events and other matters in The Book, the Debt of Honour Register at the CWGC, on local war memorials and in the publication “Officers and Soldiers Who Died In The Great War”.

Commemoration on St Peter’s Church War Memorial refers to William Henry Nelson KEYTE who served as 16989, Pte, 10th Bn Worcs Regt. He was wounded in action on 4th June 1916 and evacuated to the UK (Fort Pitt Military Hospital, Chatham) on 8th July 1916. Discharged as no longer physically fit for war service on 14th March 1918 and died of pneumonia on 25th October 1918, aged 25. Buried in an unmarked plot in Swindon Village (St Lawrence) Churchyard. Father, Mr Winfield John Keyte, resided at 4 Swindon Road North, Cheltenham then at Woodbine Cottage, Swindon Village. |
