Captain Anketell Moutray READ, VC, 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, is commemorated on a plaque in the church.
He was killed in action on 25th September 1915, the first day of the Battle of Loos and is buried in Dud Corner Cemetery, Loos.
He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial.
His parents, Col John Moutray Read and Mrs Edith Isabella Read, resided at Beaumont House, Shurdington Road, Leckhampton.
